About Us

Welcome to the South Australian Bujinkan Ninjutsu Dojo. We are a school that protects and continues the 9 martial traditions of the Bujinkan under the direction of our Grand Master, Masaaki Hatsumi. These martial traditions, developed during a period of more than 2,000 years of war and peace in Asia and Japan continue to be studied today by thousands of people and many of the world’s ‘modern’ warriors. The Bujinkan consists of 9 interconnected martial arts/traditions including but not limited to three forms of Ninjutsu. Ninjutsu developed over a very long period of time as a way of living ones life. The lessons it teaches us are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.

“Ninjutsu was not actually “Ninjutsu” right from the start. It started out as “Shinobi methods” (Shinobi no Ho), meaning methods for discerning what is right for the world, enduring, training to become a moral being, becoming aware of one’s own destiny, and dedicating one’s life to other people or the world as a whole. read more

These later became known is Ninpo, and later still Ninjutsu. The original sense was not one of mere Jutsu (techniques), but rather that of Ho (laws or principles) permeating the entire universe. For this reason, Ninja always fixed their perspective on Tenchijin, the relationship between universe, the earth and humankind.” – Grand Master Hatsumi, Ninjutsu Secret Techniques.

These traditions teach all aspects of martial arts skills, including hand to hand combat, weapons training, strategy, tactics, philosophy, politics and more. We continue these traditions today, and as such only accept students who are committed to perusing the methods of Shinobi no Ho.

South Australian Bujinkan Ninjutsu is a traditional Bujinkan Dojo, run by Shihan Evan R. Bailey. Each of the Dojo's instructors are members of the Shidoshi-Kai, the international body of licensed Bujinkan Instructors with membership directly approved and certified by Grand Master Hatsumi and the Hombu Dojo in Japan. To attain the title 'Shidoshi' one must have obtained the level of Godan (5th Dan black belt) by successfully passing the Bujinkan's unique 'Sakki Test' (Sakki roughly translates to 'killing intention').
